Amazing Paper Grace: Introducing the Cascade Christmas Collection with Holiday Waterfall Card

We all love interactive and kinetic cards! Introducing the Christmas Cascade Collection!

This holiday collection allows you to make a Cascading Card inside of a Shadowbox Frame, mounted on a card base, or unmounted. Don't worry, these motifs make great conventional cards as well.

We listened to you, and we heard loud and clear that our community loves dynamic and purposeful cards. In previous collections, we gave you 3D Vignettes in a Christmas way.  Now we've found a way to merge a Collection favorite, Shadowbox Vignettes, in a new format.

Becca Feeken with Amazing Paper Grace sent me these lovely dies to start my Christmas Cardmaking!

Hi there, today our Creative Team is sharing our makes from the Christmas Cascade Collection.  Let's take a second to sort this out...

What's a Christmas Cascade?

Amazing Paper Grace takes a spin on Christmas by building a new collection around something you already have in your stash - the Shadowbox Dies.  Becca loves building upon what you already have and making it new again.

Christmas Cascade is made up of sets of 3" motif dies where each set has 3 motifs.  That's enough for each leaf of your waterfall but again, you could make them the center of your A2 or your A7 card. These, paired with the Waterfall base will allow you to use any dies to make your next Waterfall Card.

The Inspiration behind Christmas Cascade

The inspiration for Christmas Cascade was to produce a motif to use from an enclosure card all the way up to full A7 card with background layers.  This "cardlet" size has been a favorite in our stash because the elements can easily transition into all of the Amazing Paper Grace Collections and to all size cards.  Hint:  This is not the last time you will see "Cardlets"

Each of our Creative Team members will show you how to make a Christmas Cascade Card that is a waterfall card and a Christmas Cascade Card that is a flat card.

My Projects For Today

First up is my From our Family Waterfall Card using S5-428 Holly Frame Gala, GLP-194 Elegant Holiday Glimmer Sentiment Hot Foil PlatesS4-960 Cinch and Go Poinsettia, S5-399 Candlewick Rectangle, and S6-166 Christmas Cascade Card Base.

Here is what the dies look like:

S5-428 Holly Frame Gala

S5-399 Candlewick Rectangle

S6-166 Christmas Cascade Card Base

I used a combination of navy, white, silver, red, and green colors in my two projects. The Holly frame inspired me to do an inlay technique in the front cover of the waterfall card. I embossed the die into the front panel. Using the same die, I cut a green frame and insert it into the embossed area for a perfect fit. In the center, I added a Poinsettia blossom using the Cinch and Go Poinsettia.

The sentiments were all foiled with the Elegant Holiday Glimmer Sentiment Hot Foil Plates. I love the look! These pages came together so easily in one wonderful set! Pictured below are all the pages are shown before assembling the waterfall to be adhered on to the Candlewick Rectangle card.

My Second Project

My flat card features the Holly Frame Gala. It is a sweet shaped notecard measuring 3". But it packs a punch inside with a beautiful foiled sentiment from the Elegant Glimmer Sentiment.

The holly leaf die cuts and berries were placed around the Holly Frame. I love the embossed details of the leaves. Striking against the navy background! Plus all those die cuts give the front interest and dimension. Used the Cinch and Go Poinsettia in the center with a brad to secure all the layers and accented with glitter on top of it.

Designer Tip: Use your thin metal dies not only to cut paper but to emboss into the paper for a deep impression. Next, die-cut with that same die and a piece of cardstock. Adhere the cut shape into the embossed paper for an inlay technique.

Here is the Spellbinders video showing amazing new samples as well as a tutorial showing you how to put the Cascade Card together:

Parchment and Old Lace by Laura Childs with Terrie Farley Moran

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!!!
THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!
WILL ANNOUNCE THE WINNER NEXT WEEK (WK of 12/21) :)

Awhile ago, I had an opportunity* to read a book before its official release back in October. With a little break from the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) trade show prep, I finally had a chance to write about Parchment and Old Lace written by Laura Childs with Terrie Farley Moran. Stick around to the very end - there's a giveaway!

Summary:
A murder of an up and coming female prosecutor in the district attorney's office took place in New Orleans. Carmela, a scrapbook shop owner, and her police detective boyfriend tries to solve the case with some twists and turns that include a little bit of card reading and voodoo! LOL!

Thoughts:
There were some quirky bits in the story but mostly a fun and entertaining read. The color and charm of New Orleans comes through the pages. Since I haven't been there...yet, it was interesting to read about the City and its people. Those who are interested in paper crafting, there are some tips and ideas included to try. In addition, there were recipes shared along the way. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Childs' books - there seems to be a "scrapbook" series to choose from :)

I created a book mark - what's a book without a book mark?! LOL! Taking the title literally, the base was cut with parchment paper which was embossed and misted with color.

After embossing my tag die cut, I added a little bit of Pigment Powder - Pink and water to my mister and sprayed a little here and there. It gave a beautiful shimmery finish :)

From my scrap pile, I pulled out a piece of acetate with lace adhered to it and trimmed it to create a band in the middle of my book mark. Using Adhesive Sheets - 4 x 6", I secured it down before adding my white faux leather flowers.

I colored the flower die cuts with Pigment Powder - Pink and sealed with Gel Medium. Let dry, layer them and fasten a gold brad in the center. Then adhere the flower with DODZ™ - 3D.

Rub Pigment Powder - Gold onto the 3D Foam Swirls. Add a swirl on each side of flower. Tie an organza ribbon and it's ready to be used!

Supplies List:
Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L®: Adhesives Sheets - 4 x 6" and DODZ™ - 3D
Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® with Donna Salazar: Pigment Powder - Pink, Pigment Powder - GoldTextured Ribbons (Organza) and 3D Foam Swirls
Dies: Rose Creations and Venetian Embossing Folder (Spellbinders® Creative Arts); Framelits Die Set 8 Pack - Tags Collection (Sizzix®)
Gel Medium: Faber-Castell® Design Memory Craft®
Other: Parchment Paper

Giveaway:
Great news for those of you interested in reading this book!! A giveaway for a HARD COVER COPY OF PARCHMENT AND OLD LACE to one winner (U.S. entries only). If you are interested, please COMMENT in THIS POST on what kind of books you usually read :) Me: recently it has been historical fiction. Deadline to respond by 12:01 am CST DECEMBER 19 2015 (Saturday). GOOD LUCK!!

As always, thank you for stopping by!!

Happy Valentine's Day

I've been requested to create a special Valentine's Day card from a special customer (COUGHsonCOUGH)! I decided to challenge myself and did my first easel card! LOVE how it turned out if I do say so myself! LOL!!

長男からのリクエスト: 特別なバレンタインデーカードを作てほしい。初めてのイーゼルカードを挑戦してみました!どうですか。。。上手く出来たと思います(\>0</)!

Be Mine by Margie Higuchi
Supplies - Cardstock: WorldWin Papers; Patterned Papers: Carta Bella (Devoted Collection); Stamp: JustRite PaperCraft (Antique Valentines Tags One stamp set); Ink: Clearsnap and Ranger Ink; Pearls: Want2Scrap; Dies: Spellbinders Paper Art (JBS4-356  Floral Ovals and JBE8-008 Classic Edges Two) and JustRite PaperCraft Custom Dies (JB-03990 Vintage Labels Two and JB-03775 Antique Tags One); Tools: Scor-Pal and ScraPerfect (Embellie Gellie); Adhesives: ScraPerfect (Best Glue Ever) and SCRAPBOOKING ADHESIVES By 3L (3D Foam Squares)

If you search online, you will find several tutorials on the easel card. I used SplitCoastStamper's (SCS) easel card tutorial.

You need a strip of 8½ x 4¼" cardstock and fold on the long side: 4¼" and 6⅜". Accordion fold the score lines and add a piece of 4¼" square cardstock on the 4¼" piece of the fold. Then embellish! Here's a close up of the bottom flap where the card rests on.

Have you tried an easel card? SO much fun!!

ScrapMart: Father's Day Box

Tomorrow is Father's Day...for me and others who have lost their fathers, it's a day of mixed emotions. So tomorrow, I will think HAPPY thoughts of mine and celebrate the day :) For starters, I created this cute box out of 7 1/2 x 10" patterned paper...I'll give you the link at the end of the post :)

Father's Day Box by Margie Higuchi
Supplies - Patterned Papers: Tim Holtz (Crowded Attic Collection); Ink: Ranger (Distress Ink/Tim Holtz); Dies: Spellbinders Paper Arts (S5-048 Sprightly Sprockets; S4-357 Spiral Blossom Three and Jewel Tones & Precious Metals Premium Craft Foils Assortment); Adhesive: ScraPerfect (The Best Glue Ever); Other: Brad, Sand Paper

I enjoyed this project as it uses only one 12 x 12" paper...even the band can come from the same piece of paper (this one I used from another box I made...I did alot of them! LOL!). These step outs give you an idea of how easy it was! I even managed to sneak a flower in the project ;0P

The instruction details and video came from Dawn's Stamping Studio Surprise Box Video so visit her blog! Looks like she has a lot of fun creations :)

For supplies, be sure to visit Scrap-mart.com and sign up for their monthly email with their awesome 40% coupon off one retail price (not Scrap-mart's special price) item!
