Asuka Studio: Sweet 16 Birthday Explosion Box Card

I've always wanted to do an explosion box card. Today I decided to do a simple one with one layer. The teal color reminds me of Tiffany & Co. LOL! Perfect for a Sweet 16 birthday! Hope you give it a try. Let's get started.

**I receive products from Memory Palette Co., Spellbinders®Paper Arts, and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® for use in my projects. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience and doing so I can share what I personally love to use.**

Explosion Box Card Instruction

For the base, take one 12 x 12-inch teal cardstock to score at 4-inch and 8-inch. Turn 180-degree and score again at 4-inch and 8-inch. You will have nine 4-inch scored squares.

Using a trimmer or scissors, cut the four corner squares out as shown in the below image. Set them aside for later use.

Embellishing the Inside

Cut four 3.75-inch squares from Morning Dew Patterned Paper with a paper trimmer.

Looking for a doily shape, I had the Picot Edge Circle die set so I die-cut four in white cardstock.

In addition, I used the leftover teal cardstock squares, trim them to 3.25-inch squares to mat on top of the patterned squares. For the focal accents on each layer, I used these pretties from the So Sweet Die Cut pack. Here are all the layers I plan to use for each side.

I used a combination of E-Z Runner Ultra, 3D Foam Circles and accented the corners with Creative Photo Corners in Silver.

Decorate the center square by die-cutting the largest the Picot Edge Circle die with white cardstock and adhere with E-Z Runner Ultra. Take the wreath with mouse die-cut from the Forest Friends Die Cuts Pack and center on top of the white circle die cut.

Decorating the Cake

Cut a strip of 5/8 x 4 7/8-inch teal cardstock. This will on the side of the cake (aka tea light). Cut a 1 3/8-inch circle with Morning Dew Patterned Paper and make a small opening in the center. This will cover the top of the cake.

Using E-Z Runner Ultra, adhere the pieces together. Add Sparkly Bubble Rhinestone Yellow around the top edge and side of the cake. Place in the center of the box using Adhesive Dots 3D. If you're careful, you can take off the cake to turn on/off the light and replace it back in the box.

Embellishing the Outside

Cut four 3.50-inch squares from Mermaid Fantasy Patterned Paper and die-cut four the Picot Edge Circle die with teal cardstock.

Used the E-Z Runner Ultra to secure everything and accented the corners with Creative Photo Corners in Silver.

Center a large 3D Foam Heart on each Picot Circle die cut and foiled over with Metallic Transfer Foil Sheet in Silver Holographic.

Place the foil over the heart (after taking the liner off) - color side UP and gently burnish with your finger to transfer the color over.

Create the Lid

On a piece of 5 x 5-inch square teal cardstock, score each side at 1/2-inch. Cut tab at each intersecting corner and adhere to create the lid with E-Z Runner Ultra.

Cut the same pieces as we did for the outside: one 3.50-inch square from Mermaid Fantasy Patterned Paper and die-cut one Picot Edge Circle in teal cardstock. Adhere the same way too. For the center, I die-cut "16" with 3D Foam Creative Sheet SM and adhered it by taking off the liner.

Using the same method with the 3D Foam Hearts, foil the "16" with the same color foil.

Here is the inside of the Sweet 16 Birthday Explosion Box.

The outside of the explosion box card.

And when closed with the lid.

This will be my last series of cards I will be creating for Asuka Studio Design Team #4. My teamies will continue on to DT #5. My responsibilities will change in a different capacity. That announcement will come sometime next year in 2020 so stay tuned! I like to thank Asuka for her endless support :)

Asuka Studio: Framed Birthday Card Tutorial

Happy Birthday! That is the theme I'm going for in this last series of card projects with Asuka Studio. My two cards (this one is the first of two) will be my last assignment with Asuka Studio for my design team term. BUT I will have different responsibilities in the new year for this company. Will keep you up to date once I know. LOL! Without further adieu, let me show you my layered Framed Birthday Card!

**I receive products from Memory Palette Co. and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® for use in my projects. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience and doing so I can share what I personally love to use.**

Framed Birthday Card Instructions

For the card base, cut A4 So Sweet Four Patterned Paper in half and fold one of the pieces in half to create a card base. Use the other half for another card project.

With two sheets of A4 So Sweet One Patterned Paper, I fussy cut two frames out. Apply E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Dots Refill on the back of one and center it on the card base.

For some sparkle, I randomly applied E-Z Runner® Grand Refillable Dispenser with E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Dots Refill on the card front and placed a piece of teal color from the Metallic Transfer Foil Sheets Variety Pack (color side up) over it. Then gently burnish the foil to transfer to the dots. So easy!

Next using 3D Foam Squares Black in Small size on the back of the second frame, place it on top of the first frame to create a dimensional frame element.

Choose your die cuts from the So Sweet Die Cut pack. Using a combination of Apply E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Dots Refill and 3D Foam Squares Black in Small size, place the die cuts in the desired areas of the card front.

Cut the phrase Happy Birthday Die Cut into two pieces. Add 3D Foam Squares Black in Small size on the back and place on the card base.

Add Light Pink, Light Blue, Light Purple and Clear Rhinestones around the card to finish.

Here is another look at the finished card.

Rita Barakat Designs: Altered Mermaid Paint Brush and Tag

I am excited to participate in a unique swap with my fellow Rita Barakat designer peeps! The challenge was to alter a paintbrush using Rita Barakat products and her partners' products in creating something FUN! Of course, I had to go with MERMAID!! The colors I had were perfect in making that happen :)

Did we mention a giveaway? Check out Rita Barakat Instagram for more details. In the meantime, I'd like to walk through how I altered my brushes.

**I receive products from Rita Barakat Designs, Plaid, Aladine, Spellbinders Paper Arts and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® for use in my projects. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience and doing so I can share what I personally love to use.**

Mermaid Altered Paint Brush Step Outs

I had these paint brushes for at least a couple of years and they were collecting dust. Each one had a rubber grip and a bar code sticker. It was easy to take off both (PHEW!) so I decided to give them a try. Before applying the gesso, I sanded the entire area with the exception of the bristles.

Next, I applied a thick coat of FolkArt® Color Shift™ Acrylic Paint in Aqua Flash. Note: I wanted texture so I tap the paint on. Let dry and then tap on another heavy coat of paint. Let dry. This would become the mermaid tail.

For the skin tone, I mixed Ceramcoat® Acrylic Paint in Spice Tan and FolkArt® Acrylic Color Wicker White Paint until I got my desired color. I applied two heavy coats (dry in between coats) over the area where the rubber grip was. This will be the mermaid's torso.

After the torso color dried, I used a palette knife and edge the top and bottom of the mermaid tail with Glitterific™ in Clear Hologram. Note: make sure to use a heavy coat. Let dry. It will take time to let this dry.

For the rest of the handle, I covered with Adhesive Sheet 4 x 6-inch and burnished it well with your fingernail to transfer the adhesive to the handle. You may need to do re-apply in missed areas.

Next, cover the handle with Kiss of the Fairy Embossing Powder and use a heat gun to melt.

Note the plastic handle does melt and bend. That was done on purpose. I'm thinking her "hair" is pink and wavy. Remember she's a mermaid so she's underwater and her hair is flowing up. #DesignMethodToMyMadness LOL!

For her top, I wanted something sparkly so I added two self-adhesive pink rhinestones. It works well with the FolkArt® Glitterific™ Acrylic Paint in Clear Hologram!

Since she has this glorious hair, she needs a headband. I created one with Extreme Double-Sided Tape 1/8-inch by wrapping it around where the hair meets the head. Remove the red liner and pour over Tropical Teal Sand. Press to secure and if I missed a spot, I reapply.

Lastly, I die cut a circle in white cardstock and stamped Sea Grass Cling Rubber Stamp with Izink Pigment Metal Ink in Silver. It's highly pigmented and stays wet longer so I poured Midnight Magic Embossing Powder on top of the image. Tap off excess and melt with a heating tool.

Punch a hole each on the top and bottom center. Thread the paintbrush handle to create a background for the project. DONE!
