DREAM Shadow Box
Shadow Box Basics
Using a 6 x 14-inch shadow box, I painted an evening background with a combination of
FolkArt® Acrylic Colors - Pure Black,
FolkArt® Acrylic Color - Titanium White and
Apple Barrel® Acrylic Color - Concord Grape. Cover and color until you get your desired look.
Up in the Cloud
Roll out the
Hearty Super Lightweight Modeling Clay to a flat oval to cover the
Zen Doodle Cloud Foam Stamp design. Press the stamp into the clay for an impression.
Carefully lift up from the clay. Let dry. Usually, it takes 24 hours to air dry but the weekend I made this, there were a lot of rainstorms. So I gave it a couple of days to dry.
Once completely dried, I trim off the excess edges with scissors and painted the cloud with
FolkArt® Acrylic Color - Titanium White. Let the paint dry.
Next, I wanted to give the cloud a little extra so I added
White Pearl Izink 3D Texture Paste for a subtle shimmer. Hard to picture but it's perfect!
Shimmery Stars
Since I had the
White Pearl Izink 3D Texture Paste out, I stenciled a few stars to the background in a couple of random areas to tie into the shimmery cloud.
DIY Shaker Box
For something different, I thought I'd add a clear "box" full of fun little magical trinkets (think like a shaker). But odd-shaped boxes are hard to come by so I made a lid out of acetate to solve my problem.
Cut a 6 1/8 x 4-inch from a clear piece of acetate and score 1/2-inch on each side. Cut a tab from each corner, up to the intersecting scored line. Adhere
Adhesives Dots SM on each tab to make a lid.
Fill with little magical trinkets such as clear facet beads, tinsel trim, and colored shape sequins. Add an
Adhesive Line to each side and bottom of the lid. Carefully adhering the lid (open side facing down onto the shadow box) to the bottom of the box.
Adding on the Glitz
I had this wonderful
FolkArt® Glitterific™ Acrylic Paint - Black Opal that was PERFECT for this project. It brings fabulous sparkly to a couple of areas, including the cloud shape. Spread with a palette knife and let dry.
Adhering the Main Parts
Apply
Adhesive Dots 3D on the back top and sides of the cloud shape and place it on the top section of the shadow box.
Cut and place leftover pieces from
3D Foam Creative Sheet Small White (used in past projects) on the back of the "Over the Moon" die cut from
The Veil of the Fairies Die Cut Collection. Adhere to the shadow box.
Color two
Mini Stars Canvas Die Cuts. One with
Apple Barrel® Acrylic Color - Concord Grape and
FolkArt® Glitterific™ Acrylic Paint - Black Opal. The other with two coats of
White Pearl Izink 3D Texture Paste. Adhere each
Mini Star with
Adhesive Dots 3D onto the box.
Take on the Dream
Die-cut the word "DREAM" with
3D Foam Creative Sheet Small Black, remove the bottom liner and center onto the clear box. Then remove the top liner, place the purple foil from the
Metallic Transfer Foil Sheets in Variety Colors (COLOR SIDE UP) on top and rub with your finger to transfer the color. Remove the backing and place the letters on top of the shaker box.
On the sides of this shadow box, there are strips of adhesive to add extra embellishments like ribbon. I took advantage of this and foiled the sides with
Metallic Transfer Foil Sheets in Variety Colors in purple. It was so easy. Just starting from the bottom, working around the box until covered.
To tie in with the purple foil, I added three of the smallest
3D Foam Stars shapes to the box for extra accents. NOW it's ready to be hung!
Here are a couple of close-ups of the finished project.
You made it this far - THANK YOU!! I hope that this inspires you to create a HANDMADE CHRISTMAS gift this year. What will you be making? Let me know in the comments :)
